This school year's distribution was made possible with our amazing group of volunteers who helped pack more than 350 bags for students! The group of helpers represents first-time volunteers, veteran helpers and members of local organizations. It takes a team to coordinate, shop and set up the supplies for such a large number of kids. We thank EVERYONE who shows up to make sure each child has what they need on the first day of school.
Parents may sign up for school supplies on our website or at the Clinton office of Community Action. Please submit your information by July 1 to allow us time to purchase supplies. Distribution of supplies is Aug. 9. Volunteers are welcome to help us back the supply bags on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.
Congratulations to Markie Fehrlen, of Clinton, the recipient of the Off and Running Scholarship sponsored by The Write Stuff for Kids Inc. The annual $1,500 scholarship helps DeWitt County students continue their education. Markie works with the Birth to Three program at Early Head Start. She will continue her education towards a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
Congratulations to the 16 graduates of the Clinton Academy! This represents almost 50 percent of the 42 students who enrolled at some point during the school year. And kudos to their teachers Kate Deardorff and Denise King for their work. We are grateful for the continued support of Constellation Clean Energy Center. The generous donation of $5,000 is a real boost as we begin our fundraising efforts for 2025. We anticipate higher prices and higher numbers of students who need assistance this year. After more than 20 years, we know Clinton will come through to make our work possible!
