About Write Stuff
The Write Stuff For Kids Inc. was organized in 2002 to help DeWitt County students with the basic school supplies they need to start school.
The late Larry McGuire called a group of friends together on a snowy February day with the idea that no child should go to school without supplies. In August 2002, we filled and delivered 200 backpacks with supplies. Larry passed away on May 30, 2022, in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he and his wife Cheryl made their home in retirement. He will always be remembered for his generous spirit and the love he had for children.
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are grateful for the ongoing support from our community. We have seen our numbers grow to an average of 500 students who receive supplies in August and throughout the school year.
Our assistance does not end with school supplies.
The Write Stuff For Kids Inc. purchased the computerized lunch program for the Clinton Junior High and High School, with the assistance of a grant from Exelon Energy. We also provide funding for tuition payments for high school students interested in the CDL course available through Richland Community College. No request is too small for funding – the gingerbread houses at Clinton Elementary School is one of our favorite projects.
In 2019, we established the Off and Running Scholarship for DeWitt County students to attend Richland Community College. Non-traditional and traditional students receive help with tuition, books and other expenses.
After 20 years, our mission remains the same: every child should have what they need to succeed on the first day of school.
